【Road to ICF】Natsumi Day3

On the third morning, the day began with a run across the vast marshland stretching out in front of the house. This morning, the air was so cold that my breath turned to mist, and the atmosphere was sharp and clear, with the sky stretching to an almost dizzying height.

Right in front of the house is a protected wetland area, which has been turned into a trail. Running through it is so much fun. It was refreshing to see plants and animals that aren’t found in Japan, like cacti 🌵, rabbits 🐇, and large migratory birds 🪿, all scattered around the area.

After running about 8 kilometers, I returned home and enjoyed a peaceful moment, having breakfast with Adam's mom, who had made it for us.

This year, I haven't been as strict with my diet as I was last year, but I do try to be mindful of what I eat on a daily basis. I always bring along ingredients like honey, salt, sugar, soy sauce, and miso when I go on trips or expeditions. However, what I realized this time is that it's the meals made with love that truly give me the most energy. And when there's someone with me to share that comforting time, in a place where I feel safe and at ease, it makes it even more special.

I try to limit my intake of flour, choose oils that are okay, and always check the packaging for the product with the fewest additives. Alcohol is a no-go. Once I started paying attention to all these details, it became endless, and before I knew it, something that was originally for my sport and my body started to feel more like a source of stress.

It was a morning when I truly felt that there is a kind of nourishment that goes beyond logic.

By the way, the key person since the beginning of this trip has been Adam (@admwlkr), who is my boss @kenny_kaneko’s childhood friend. Adam is the one who designed the logo for @paddler_official, as well as the T-shirts and stickers for PADDLER. He took some truly amazing photos and videos, and his work, along with his super happy vibes, always has a positive influence on everyone around him 🌿.

I was struggling with booking the domestic flight tickets to Florida and the rental car, staring at my computer, when I realized it was almost noon. I got ready to paddle and headed back to Huntington Harbor, just like yesterday. The inflatable board feels different to paddle on, and it’s a bit frustrating since it doesn't pick up speed as easily as a hardboard. However, because the board is thicker, I need to keep my knees bent deeply and maintain a low center of gravity to catch the water properly. It's great practice for focusing on pressing down with my feet to transmit power to the board. I tend to raise my hips while paddling, but this is a good exercise for keeping my center of gravity low and improving my form.

When I got back, I struggled with registering my credit card, had trouble changing the rental car pick-up time, and was working through flight and car rental bookings while battling with texts that looked like nothing but a jumble of code. It was a mix of frustration and work.

For dinner, they made the tacos I had mentioned wanting to try. 🌮🙏🏾 Tacos are unbelievably expensive in Japan, so I'm really happy to be able to eat as many as I want!

Today, there was a rocket launch, and I was lucky enough to see it with my own eyes 🚀🌏. Watching it soar into space, trailing like a comet, was incredibly inspiring and gave me a sense of courage ☄️.

Tomorrow morning, I’m joining a training session with @dannyching404, which he kindly introduced me to. I’m really looking forward to getting back on the OC1 🛶 after a long time. Honestly, I'm more nervous about driving on the highway for the first time in the U.S. than about the chance of huli-ing (capsizing)!
